Questions about Polar Ice Tray

      • How does clear ice work?

      • How do I make ice as clear as your photos?

        • Here are a few tips for you to try:
          • Set the freezer controller temperature to -0.4°F (-18° C)
            • For older freezers without a temperature display, it’s helpful to purchase a freezer thermometer (~$9 on Amazon) to measure your freezer temperature
            • Cloudiness and air bubbles may occur when the water in the holes of the perforated layer freeze too quickly, trapping the air bubbles in the ice
          • The typical freezing time is 8-12 hours
            • The slower the freeze, the better for letting the natural physics of the top-down freezing process to occur
          • Keep the tray away from the freezer fan outlet -- the air that comes directly out of the outlet is too cold to make clear ice
          • Avoid opening the freezer door too frequently or slamming it during the freezing process
          • Use room temperature water -- to do this, please leave a large glass of water out on the counter for about hour.  Especially in the winter, the tap water that comes out of the faucet can be too cold.

      • What is the Polar Ice Tube used for?

        • The Polar Ice Tube is for storing your spheres of crystal clear ice.  To use it, put the hexagon-shaped bottom piece flat on the counter with the opening face up and put 2 spheres inside.  Screw the rounded upper half all the way down and store in your freezer.  The tube can be placed horizontally or vertically.
        • If you have 3 - 4 spheres to store, place 2 additional spheres in the upper half before you screw the two pieces together.

      • Is Polar Ice Tray dishwasher safe?

        • The plastic and silicone components of the Polar Ice Tray are dishwasher safe.  However, the foam sleeve should be washed by hand.
      • I cracked the plastic tray for my Polar Ice Tray. Can I get a replacement part?

        • One of the biggest design challenges for Polar Ice Tray was making it food-safe and yet tolerant of VERY COLD conditions for a long period of time.  The plastic we chose is actually made to withstand colder than normal temperatures, but even the toughest material gets brittle when you freeze it for that long.
        • If you dropped or cracked your tray when removing the white ice, we’d be happy to send you a replacement part of $10 plus S&H.  Please use our Contact Us form and include your tray series and mailing address.
      • My Polar Ice Tray – Polar Animals Series leaks a little.  What should I do?

        • Here are a few tricks to try:
          • Place both silicone layers in hot water for 10 mins This allows the silicone to return to its original shape in case the seal was stretched during shipping/packaging or when forcibly pulling the silicone off the frozen spheres (we recommend letting the tray sit on the counter for a few minutes to let the ice thaw before removing the upper silicone mold)
            • Use hot water that has been brought to a boil and then removed from the heat source
          • Fill the tray only 90% full of water to allow the ice to expand
          • If you just pulled the tray out of the freezer and want to make another batch, let the entire tray return to room temperature before re-filling the mold with water.  The tightness of the seal depends on the elasticity of the silicone, which is most effective at room temperature.
          • On the upper silicone mold, be sure to snap the circular plug opposite the water pipe into place to prevent leakage and firmly seal the outer edges of the silicone layers all the way around

            • Unfortunately, once an order is placed on our website and sent to our warehouse, there is no way to change the address.
          • What do I do if I received 2 tracking numbers for my order?

            • If it will save you on shipping, our order fulfillment warehouse will send your order out as separate packages.  That way, we get to pass the savings on to you.
